Daily Farm Report - 4/19/13

A daily recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals farm system.

After his first start being delayed last night, hard throwing top tier pitching prospect Carlos Martinez makes his first live start in Springfield. Arizona product Kurt Heyer made a strong impressive performance in Peoria.

Memphis 0, San Antonio 4.

  • Not much offense from Memphis as they only recorded 4 hits and two walks as a team. Note Oscar Taveras was not in the lineup.
  • Kolten Wong, Brock Peterson, and Chad Huffman all singled. Ryan Jackson and Jermaine Curtis both walked.
  • Jaime Romak doubled.
  • Lefty Tyler Lyons threw 6 innings allowed 7 hits on 4 runs all were earned while walking 1 and striking out 5. Lyons threw 70 pitches-47 for strikes and produced 6 groundouts against 3 flyouts.
  • Makiel Cleto came on it relief of Lyons by tossing 2 scoreless innings his control is still an issue walked 2 but struck out 3 batters in the effort.

Springfield 3, Arkansas 2 in game one of the doubleheader.

  • One of the peskiest hitters in the minors. Mike O'Neill was 2-3 with an RBI single, walked, and stole a base. O'Neil is now 13-for-46 on the young season that's a .283 clip.
  • Pham, Lemmerman, and Rodriguez (stole a base and scored a run) all singled.
  • Chris Swauger hit a two run homer his 2nd of the season.
  • Carlos Martinez wasn't expected to throw many pitches or go deep in the game as he's still trying to build up innings in live action. Lasted 2 2/3 innings gave up 4 hits 1 run 1 earned threw 44 pitches.
  • Anthony Ferrara piggy backed for Martinez. Earned his first win by going 3 innings of giving up 1 hit 1 earned 1 walk while striking 3 batters.
  • The new Springfield closer Michael Blazek converted the save by recording a 4 out save.

Springfield 3, Arkansas 0 in game 2.

Palm Beach 5, Bradenton 6

  • James Ramsey had an hitless game but still contributed by walking twice and scoring a run. Ramsey has shown a lot of patient at the plate so far he's already walked 11 times in only 53 at bats and owns a .493 OBP doing so.
  • Switch hitter Colin Walsh was 1-4 with an RBI single.
  • Stephen Piscotty second game returning from the 7-Day DL was 2-4 pushes his AVG up to .423.
  • Cody Stanley went 2-4 with an RBI single.
  • Anthony Garcia was hitless as well but hit a sac fly already has 12 RBI's.
  • Danny Stienstra was 3-4 with a double.
  • Ronny Gil went 1-4 with an RBI single also swiped his 3rd bag.
  • Tyler Melling pitched 5 1/3 innings surrendered 7 hits 3 runs 2 earned walked 1 struck out 6.
  • Iden Nazario, and Jose Almarante 2 2/3 innings gave up 7 hits 3 earned runs combined

Peoria 4, Cedar Rapids 1

  • Ildemaro Vargas was 2-5 with a run scored.
  • Alex Mejia maintains his hot hitting by going 2-2 with 2 runs scored, hit an RBI single, and walked twice. Mejia is now batting .395.
  • Breyvic Valera, and Patrick Wisdom singled. Jacob Wilson hit a sac fly.
  • Jordan Walton goes 2-3 with a 2 run RBI double.
  • Michael Swinson was 2-4 with a triple. That triple reminds me of his speed.
  • Kurt Heyer was impressive in 7 solid innings displaying that great stamina by only giving up 4 hits on 1 run 1 earned walked none struck out 8 batters. Produced 8 groundouts against 4 flyouts.
  • Zachary Petrick with yet another impressive outing. Gave up 3 hits on 2 strikeouts in 2 scoreless innings. In 9 2/3 innings he struck out 17 batters.
