Spring Farm Report - 3/26/13

New, comments

A recap of the minor league players in the Cardinals' system.

Memphis 6, Las Vegas 5

  • Seth Maness pitched 4 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 3 hits and 1 walk. He struck out 1. Maness is part of an interesting set of second tier pitching prospects. Since the Cardinals farm system is so ridiculously stacked with really great "stuff" guys (Miller, Kelly, Rosenthal, Martinez, Wacha), those players that are more "command and control" or "pitchability" types don't get much attention. They're making their way to the top of the system though and the Cardinals are going to run out of places to put them all. Guys like Scott Gorgen, Maness, Tyler Lyons, John Gast and Boone Whiting could all end up in AA or AAA rotations this year. That's a crush of projected 4/5 starters. Not all of these guys will succeed obviously but the Cardinals could structure an interesting trade package just around these kind of near-MLB ready, back of the rotation arms.
  • Eduardo Sanchez walked 1 and allowed 3 hits in 1.2 innings. He struck out 1 while allowing 3 runs (1 earned).
  • Sam Freeman struck out 2 and walked 1 in 0.2 innings.
  • Kolten Wong was 2-for-2 with a double. I'd like to see him have a bit of a steadier year start to finish.
  • Jermaine Curtis was 2-for-4.
  • JR Towles was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and a double.
  • Jaime Romak was 1-for-2 with a pair of walks.

Springfield 2, Binghamton 5 (7 1/2 innings)

  • Nick Additon allowed 5 hits in 4.1 innings for 1 ER. He walked 1 and struck out 1.
  • Iden Nazario was the real culprit in the loss allowing 4 runs (3 earned) in 0.2 innings. He walked 2 and allowed 3 hits.
  • Vance Albitz was 2-for-3.
  • Xavier Scruggs was 1-for-2 with a double and a walk.
  • Adem Melker was 1-for-2 with a walk.

Palm Beach 5, St. Lucie 3

  • Steve Sabatino struck out 1 in 2 innings and walked 1.
  • Willy Paulino walked 3 in 2 innings allowing 1 hit for 2 ER.
  • Tyler Rahmatulla was 1-for-2 with a home run and a walk.
  • James Ramsey was 1-for-3 with a walk. He gave the St. Lucie first baseman a pep talk both times.
  • Geoff Klein was 1-for-1 with a walk.

Peoria 2, Savannah 9

  • Chris Corrigan got walloped for 6 runs in 4 innings. He allowed 1 walk and 6 hits but struck out 4.
  • Dixon Llorens pitched a perfect frame striking out 1.
  • Charlie Tilson was 2-for-4.
  • Michael Swinson was 1-for-3 with a double and a walk.
  • Patrick Wisdom was 1-for-3 with a walk.
