MLB All-Star Game 2013: St. Louis Cardinals grab five spots on National League roster

The St. Louis Cardinals send five members of their 25-man roster to the 2013 MLB All-Star Game.

USA TODAY Sports

The 2013 MLB All-Star Game selection show is in the books, and it couldn't have gone much better for the St. Louis Cardinals: Not only did Yadier Molina and Carlos Beltran make the starting lineup, but Allen Craig and Matt Carpenter made the roster as well, with Carpenter earning the player's vote and Craig the manager's. Adam Wainwright also made the team, but won't be pitching, according to Jenifer Langosch.

Shelby Miller and Edward Mujica are really the only Cardinal with an argument who won't be there, and Allen Craig the only All-Star who isn't clearly deserving. But Craig's on pace for 130 RBI, give or take, which is a good way of getting yourself on the manager's list, and the pitchers will get a few more chances to make the list as pitchers join Wainwright in begging off for the festivities.

Beltran, incidentally, is on his way to his eighth All-Star team. For a guy who's been perpetually underrated (and frequently injured)—who seems doomed to underperforming in a future Hall of Fame vote—that's really a lot of recognition. Molina will be making his fifth straight appearance, while Wainwright returns (kind of) for his second appearance after a two-year layoff.

The complete rosters are at SBNation.com. So is the Final Vote list, which is going to look something like this when you go online to vote: Ian Desmond, Freddie Freeman, Adrian Gonzalez, Hunter Pence, or YASIEL PUIG!!!!!!!!!!!
