I was very disappointed when the Cardinals signed Dickerson and Pujols. I'm sorry but I only viewed Albert's signing as a nostalgic publicity move to sell tickets. I'm not sure what the intentions are for either of these players at this point with the Yepez promotion and immediate insertion into the lineup. Neither is getting consistent at bats and they are a combined 8 for 52 over the last 15 games. Over the years, the Cardinals have proven that they will not eat contracts to pave the way for youth who are big league ready. Which brings me to my point - I love Paul DeJong but it's time to go in a different direction. Move Tommy Edman to short and promote Nolan Gorman to the bigs. DeJong has an escalating contract with $6MM due in 2022 and $9MM due in 2023 with a team buyout option for 2024. Sosa or DeJong would need to be moved to clear a roster spot. There have been many Tommy Edman naysayers on this site over the past couple of years. All the kid does is compete and win. I love the way he plays the game. No concerns at all about taking his gold glove to shortstop and repeating the same level of success.
I was pleasantly surprised with Yepez's promotion. Now it's time to do the same with Gorman.
