St Louis Cardinals v Milwaukee Brewers Photo by John Fisher/Getty Images

Good morning!!

The Cardinals have won 10 in a row and own a four-game lead in the National League Wild Card race. I’m confident in saying no one saw this coming three months ago... but I am certainly glad it has happened.

I think Scooter said it best:

Pitching and defense were the story last night, and Derek recapped the win.

St. Louis is now 81-69 and hold a (dare I say) somewhat-breathable lead in the Wild Card race. The Reds lost to the Pirates last night, so they are four games back, and the Phillies are holding out at 4.5 games. The Padres fell to the Giants last night, and San Diego is now five games back of the Cardinals.

Over in the American League Wild Card race, the Yankees remain hot on the heals of the Blue Jays, who are clinging to the second spot with just a half-game lead. The Blue Jays are hungry for the top spot though — with Boston holding it by 1.5 games.

The Cardinals and Brewers will play again this evening: same time, same place. Brewers lefty Brett Anderson will make the start against Miles Mikolas, who threw a shutout into the sixth inning in his last outing. First pitch from Milwaukee is set for 6:40 PM Central.

Have a great Wednesday!
