The Cardinals are enjoying a day off today, their first since the All-Star Break. St. Louis has won six of 10 games and sit at an even .500 — 50 wins, 50 losses — as the Friday, July 30th trade deadline approaches.
There haven’t been any big rumors surrounding the Cardinals (yet), but we have seen some action around the league. The Twins sent Nelson Cruz to the Rays, and the Pirates dealt Adam Frazier to the Padres; both trades sent packages of prospects back the other way. A name the Cardinals may have had interest in, Rich Hill, has already been dealt. The Mets got the 41-year-old, left-handed Hill from the Rays for Tommy Hunter and a minor leaguer. The Nationals got swept by the Orioles over the weekend, and one could think that would drive them to sell over the next few days.
The Cardinals will continue play in Ohio this week, as they are set to face the Indians on Tuesday and Wednesday. This will be the last time the Cardinals play the Indians; starting in 2022, the Cleveland Indians will be known as the Cleveland Guardians.
Have a good day!
