Good Monday morning, everyone. After Nolan Arenado’s game-winning homer on Opening Day, the Cardinals dropped the last two games of the weekend series against the Brewers. Through the first nine games, the Cardinals are 5-4.
Although they dropped two of three this past weekend, there are a few positive takeaways. Arenado has now hit safely in each of his first nine games with the Cardinals.
Lane Thomas and Johan Oviedo were promoted the to the Majors ahead of Sunday’s game, with Tyler O’Neill hitting the shelf and Jake Woodford being optioned. Both, Thomas and Oviedo, saw playing time shortly after arriving in St. Louis. Thomas started in center field and went 1-for-3 with a walk. After starter Daniel Ponce de Leon couldn’t get out of the second inning on Sunday, Oviedo pitched 4 2⁄3 scoreless innings.
The Cardinals will look to get back in the win column on Monday when the Nationals are in town. John Gant and Erick Fedde will start the 6:45 PM game.
