It is official. Mike Shannon is retiring after the 2021 season, his fiftieth season in the booth. It is sad, the end of an era, but the Moon Man has more than earned his retirement. I would say to pour out a frosty, cold one in his honor, but Shannon would never approve of wasting a beverage like that.
To help me cope with this blunt and cruel reminder of the passage of time and our fleeting human existence, I have turned to the past. This may be Mike Shannon’s final year in the booth, but in 50 years he has made a lot of memories, more than even I know about. So share your favorite #ShannonMemory with me. I have found some online already and will share them with you now.

My favorite random #STLCards radio moment:
— Z Ed (@sheckiezx) January 30, 2021
(Skip Schumaker strikes out)
Mike Shannon: “And, that strike out was brought to you by... by... well, I don’t know who it was brought to you by!”
John: “It wasn’t brought to them by anyone, Mike.”
Happy birthday, John. https://t.co/TWT9npoklB
"It was a pretty good pitch. The squirrel had a better look at it than anyone!" - Mike Shannon

Radio "moment:" about 5:46 in when Mike Shannon is surprised by caller Mickey, whose last name happens to be Lolich. First time they talked since the '68 World Series (when Mike got a HR off Lolich in the 7th game). @KMOXSports @Cardinals @tigers https://t.co/dLXYrlEuUr

Classic moment from STL radio legend Mike Shannon: "Cardinals down by a cinco. When is Cinco de Mayo? Around May 1st or something?"

The great thing about listening to Mike Shannon is that feeling that he's going to say something that gets him fired at any moment.

Mike Shannon just said “blow job” on air and I am not capable of ingesting the amount of alcohol necessary to cope with this.
