Good morning, everyone! Three weeks from today, the Cardinals will be in Cincinnati to open the 2021 regular season. Down in the Grapefruit League, the Cardinals are off this afternoon.
With the news that there will be no designated hitter in the National League this year, tomorrow’s starting pitcher is going to get some practice from the other side of the ball as well...
Big news for the #PitchersWhoRake crew: Adam Wainwright will be in the lineup as a hitter for himself tomorrow. #stlcards will have their pitchers bat in NL games (read: all but one of them, I believe) from here on out in spring.— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) March 11, 2021
With the uncertainties surrounding Miles Mikolas as we near the start of the season, the Cardinals starting rotation might not be as clear-cut as we thought it could be. Carlos Martinez looked much better in his second spring outing, compared to his first, so that is a positive. Of course, Jack Flaherty, Adam Wainwright, and Kwang Hyun Kim are here as well. If Mikolas does miss extended time, this definitely magnifies the loss of Dakota Hudson for this season. But, even beyond Mikolas and any other possible injuries, the Cardinals will use more than five starters this year. In fact, it might be closer to 10.
Have a good day!
