I am gonna miss Mike Shannon.
Shannon was born in St. Louis, Missouri. He joined the Cardinals in 1962 at the age of 22, played with the team for nine seasons and he remained in the Cardinals organization ever since. Sixty years of his life he has represented the Birds on the Bat and probably will continue to, even though no longer officially. He seemed to love his job and love the S. Louis Cardinals — he would have to in order to keep doing it for fifty years, right? Mike Shannon is St. Louis through and through and we listeners could tell he was proud of it.
There is so much more to say about the Moon Man, but I think I’ll let him speak for himself.
I don’t know who to credit this photo to but enjoy it anyway on the Mike Shannon’s last weekend as Cardinals announcer pic.twitter.com/1MEA3PbPqN

I was in the hot tub, far back of Pirates training room. It’s 6:30pm, 30 min or so before first pitch. Here comes Mike Shannon strolling thru the other side to catch up. Nobody said you’re not allowed in here. That’s Mike Shannon. What a guy! @Cardinals

Mike Shannon should have a statue at Busch Stadium that talks like the Jack Buck one, except for hearing a call of a historic baseball game it’s just random potato salad recipe or an anecdote about drinking until 5 in the morning with Macho Man Randy Savage in 1991 #stlcards
