After a year of few ups mixed in with many downs, we look ahead to 2021, hoping for a much better ride — in sports and in general life.
New Year’s Resolutions for the Cardinals in 2021
The start of the NHL regular season is scheduled for January 13, and the Blues home opener here in St. Louis is set for January 18. As of now, the MLB regular season opener is scheduled for April 1, but reports suggest the month of May is more likely. The owners and entire league would like all players and team personnel to be vaccinated for COVID-19 before gathering for Spring Training. The hope would be that as more of the population gets vaccinated over the coming months, teams will be permitted to sell at least some tickets for regular season games.
For the Cardinals, 2021 is the 10-year anniversary of their last World Series title. As things currently stand, everybody from that World Series team is gone. If Yadier Molina decides to re-sign in St. Louis, he would be the only player left on the Cardinals who was active in that World Series. Of course, Adam Wainwright was injured in 2011 and Matt Carpenter made his debut early that summer. If fans are permitted at Cardinals games in 2021, definitely look for many tributes to that wild 2011 ballclub.
What team should Yadier Molina play for?
As always, thank you for coming to VEB to talk baseball and other things with us. Hopefully we can have more uplifting conversation this year..
