Here at Hunt and Peck we have long been fans of the beautiful friendship between Adam Wainwright and Yadier Molina. After Sunday’s performance, that hasn’t changed. Wainwright celebrated his thirty-ninth birthday on August 30 as he faced off against Cleveland, completing his 23rd complete game in his career allowing two runs on four hits. To make it more special, his long-time battery-mate Yadier Molina was behind the plate, playing in his 2000th career game. It was quite a moment, seeing the teammates we have come to know and love over the course of fifteen years, culminating in this moment:
Waino’s younger teammates had a few jokes to celebrate his performance.
What a surprise to see @Jack9Flaherty waiting on me at the airport like this... then I was wheel-chaired all the way to the plane. He respects his elders so much. Good one young fella. pic.twitter.com/hdlX8XPirH— Adam Wainwright (@UncleCharlie50) August 30, 2020
Jokes aside, Father Time comes for us all. With one year on each of the contracts, this might be the last year we see Waino and Yadi in a Cardinals uniform. More games like that would be a heck of a way to go out.
