This Season by Few Numbers

Now that the season has officially started.. and I've been gifted a computer once again (albeit with a wonky -using my phone as a hot spot- connection), I've decided to do some writing once again.

Of course, there's only Notepad as an editor because my little bro (shout out to a future computer engineer) who fixed this baby up loves Microsoft, and Office uh requires an internet connection these days, as well as presumably a subscription. And well, I'm stubborn. And apparently too lazy to go download LibreOffice, so eh. I also don't mind just using Notepad.

I don't think this article is going to be about the Cardinals or Now Times because well, we've burnt enough retinas and screens lighting the interwebs on fire with that topics. This being a "baseball blog" those must be the same thing. No, I just want to talk about the expected weirdness of this season and the various narratives that are starting to sprout, just barely peaking out of baseball's ground floor.

This is probably going to be short and mostly a rah rah post.

How cool is it that Baltimore gets a chance at another presumably improbable run. They did it over a full season that one time, but this won't be as herculean of an effort as they're already 1/3 the way through 60 games, 2 GB and tied for the Wild Card lead (whatever that means, I'm struggling retaining all the data in Skyricesq's posts and this season's machinations in general)?

This isn't exactly new territory for the Rays, but I think at least for now I like the Orioles/Rays playing second fiddle to the regular Big 2 more than Blue Jays/Rays. That may be because Toronto went legit all-in and were very good only to fall apart without trading significant assets while until I'm notified of another timeline split, the Orioles just seem like that hapless underdog that can bring cheer to the cheeks of babes and brutes alike.

And they're still within randoming distance of the Yankees who always seemed like they were going to run away with this division kind of like the...

Dammit NL West, you couldn't hold on for just one more second? I was going to say Dodgers and then "Oh my god, what's going on in the NL West?!?" but you just right done there now lost that promo, chumps.

As I type this, the Cubs are once again leading the NL Central with a 13-4 record while the runner up, our St. Louis Cards carry a cromulent .500 record (there was a typo on mlb.com saying they have a 3-3 record. someone should email them, but as aforementioned, I am too lazy). The Central isn't carrying the excitement that many of us may have hoped for this season, with a pretty traditional top to bottom. Milwaukee and Cincy are both under .500 despite last season hope and off-season moves respectively.

This next bit iiiis exciting. The Miami Marlins (once again with a typo) are leading a division. From what I've heard on VEB, they heard our idea about Memphis playing at an MLB level and decided to just steal that idea... with success. ATL's also young squad is runner up. The Mets are the Mets. Washington and Philly are enjoying a World Series hangover and going all-in with Free Agency respectively. To be faair, Harper has a 1.157 OPS. So this shit is not his fault. And the season is only 1/3 done so there's still hope to catch Miami's AAAA squad.

I don't care about the rest of the AL and I said this would be short-ish so I hope you enjoyed my reactions to small, unbalanced sample sizes and hopefully we win the rest of the games this weekend.

Toodles.
