Each day seems to bring another stack of bad news for the St. Louis Cardinals. As most are probably already aware, the COVID outbreak that appeared to have been contained reared its ugly head once more. The realization that preventing spread of the virus is difficult, particularly on a professional baseball team, is not a surprising one based on what we know about COVID-19. It does not mean it is not disappointing, though.
That is really all I have to say on this and I think it is the best way to describe the Cardinals current situation. Some might feel anger or sadness or maybe even a little fear, which are completely fair emotions to feel. Personally though, I just feel disappointed. Not even at anyone in particular, just in general. Cardinals baseball would have been a nice thing to have around right now, but so far it just has not really worked out. Maybe it just was not meant to be.
I do not know what the future has in store. My dream scenario is that the team is able to contain the outbreak, cobble together a squad until everyone makes a quick and full recovery, and then strictly follow the guidelines to prevent another outbreak as they attempt to make up as many games as possible. The team then defeats all their opponents and coasts to a World Series win. My hope right now is that every one just stays health or gets healthy again and stays healthy. From there, we will just have to see what happens.
Until then, we wait.
