Game 7 of the American League Championship Series was last night. After losing their 3-0 lead in the series, the Rays defeated the Astros, 4-2, on Saturday, and have advanced to the World Series. This is the first time in MLB history a team has lost their 3-0 lead in the a best-of-seven series but still won the series. Listening to the Rays radio broadcasts throughout the Postseason, a common line has been ‘this team doesn’t do anything the easy way.’ It would be hard to disagree with that.
The MVP of the ALCS was none other than Randy Arozarena. Arozarena became the first rookie position player to win a Postseason MVP award; the most recent rookie — a pitcher to win it was Michael Wacha (!!) back in 2013. In the seven games against the Astros, Arozarena batted .321 with four home runs.
Now, the Rays are waiting to see who they will face in the World Series. The Braves and Dodgers will play Game 7 of the NLCS this evening at 7:15 PM CT. Ian Anderson will go for the Braves, and the Dodgers haven’t announced their pitching plans.
