After an 18-7 April was followed up with a 22-31 stretch across May and June, perhaps not many anticipated what we have seen from the Cardinals over the last seven weeks. Since the All-Star break, St. Louis is an MLB-best 35-17. The Cardinals have taken a 2 1⁄2 game lead in the National League Central division and have just 22 games remaining the in regular season. With several bats booming and quality pitching across the board, it’s hard to bet against this club right now.
For the first time since 2008, the Cardinals have three players with at least 25 home runs - Paul Goldschmidt with 29, Paul DeJong’s new-season-high of 26, and Marcell Ozuna with 25. Jack Flaherty was the National League Pitcher of the Month for August, and Carlos Martinez’s 15 saves since the break lead the game.
In this week’s FanPulse survey, 74 percent of participating fans are confident in the Cardinals as the season dwindles down. This mark is up nearly 20 percentage points from last week and the highest it has been since May. So, it also makes sense that 97 percent of fans approve of the job Mike Shildt is doing. Fans haven’t been that supportive of the skipper in nearly four months.
For this week’s national question, fans were asked for their opinion on bench-clearing brawls. It’s fitting, since the Cardinals and Reds were involved in one last weekend..
The biggest part of surveyed fans feel that brawls are okay, with 59 percent answering ‘yes.’
