Daily Farm Report: Another O-fer for Matt Carpenter

Matt Carpenter went hitless again Monday night. His streak is up to 19 minor league at-bats without a hit. The team fell to Corpus Christi 7-6 in 10 innings.

Five home runs in a three inning span for Corpus Christi was the difference maker in this one.

Dylan Carlson tied things at 3 with a home run in the fifth but the Hooks came back in the sixth with three long balls to put Springfield down 6-3. A solo shot by Justin Toerner in the sixth and a two-run home run from Elehuris Montero in the eighth tied things and ultimately sent the game to extras.

Springfield couldn’t get the run it gave up in the 10th back, with Conner Capel, Rayder Ascanio and Irving Lopez all striking out in the bottom half.

Tommy Parsons gave up six runs, six hits, one walk and struck out five in 5 ²⁄₃ innings. Will Latcham and Jacob Patterson both pitched scoreless innings and Bryan Dobzanski (1-1) threw the final two and was credited with the loss.

Colin Schmid put together a great start and the Peoria offense did just enough to run with it.

A Brady Whalen sacrifice fly and RBI double from Imeldo Diaz put the Chiefs up 2-0 in the first. Peoria’s third run came when the Bees’ pitcher missed a catch in the fifth, allowing Brendan Donovan to score.

After Schimd’s seven solid innings, Leonardo Taveras turned in a scoreless two innings out of the pen.
