Springfield took its first lead thanks to three runs in the bottom of the sixth but couldn’t hold on, ultimately allowing Tulsa to immediately respond with three runs in the seventh.

Tulsa took an early 3-0 lead in the second before Justin Toerner hit a solo home run in the bottom half.

A solo home run by Dylan Carlson and RBI singles by Conner Capel and Chris Chinea gave Springfield a 4-3 lead, but it was quickly 6-4 after Tulsa’s second three-run inning.

Johan Oviedo gave up three runs over six innings of work. Will Latcham was tagged for all three seventh inning runs. Connor Jones and Jacob Patterson pitched scoreless innings.

Springfield drops for 34-47. Game 2 with Tulsa is Tuesday at 6:30.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 9 at Palm Beach Cardinals 1

Palm Beach put together a disastrous performance and collected just four hits in a blowout loss to Lakeland.

Lakeland put two runs on the board in the third and the game unraveled after following with four runs in the fourth.

Palm Beach’s only run came in the eighth on a Chase Pinder sac fly.

Perry DellaValle (3-4) gave up six runs, 10 hits, no walks and struck out seven in four innings. Edgar Escobar provided three innings of relief and gave up one run. C.J. Saylor gave up two runs in two innings.

Palm Beach falls to 38-38 (3-9 second half). Game 2 with Lakeland is Tuesday at 5:30.
