Today, as the Cardinals play one of their final spring exhibition games of 2019, Viva El Birdos concludes its annual projections series with right-hander Carlos Martinez.
2019 Viva El Birdos Community Projections
Martinez, who turned 27 years old back in September, is dealing with a right shoulder injury. Martinez has not pitched in any games this spring and will be out of big-league action until at least May. He received a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection last week and resumed his throwing program on Wednesday.
In 2018, Martinez appeared in 33 contests for the Cardinals, starting 18 of those games. Martinez held batters to a .228 batting average and posted a 3.11 ERA in 118 2⁄3 innings. Martinez missed time last season with lat, oblique, and shoulder ailments, and it appears the latter of the three has lingered.
Now is your chance to predict how things will go for Martinez in 2019!
