2019 Community Projections: Matt Carpenter

Is that salsa on a multi-year deal?

MLB: Spring Training-St. Louis Cardinals at Houston Astros Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

The Cardinals are just over two weeks away from the regular season opener against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Thursday, March 28. Today, as our preseason content rolls on, we continue our 2019 Community Projections with Matt Carpenter.

Viva El Birdos 2019 Community Projections

After batting .145 in April and combining for only 20 extra-base hits in the first two months of last season, Carpenter went on to hit .270 from June through the end of the 2018 season. In that span of June-September, Carpenter hit 30 home runs, including 11 long balls in the month of July alone.

With St. Louis’s acquisition of first baseman Paul Goldschmidt from the Arizona Diamondbacks in the offseason, Carpenter will serve as the team’s primary third baseman in 2019 - and hopefully beyond. If the injury bug refrains from biting, the infield should be the same everyday; Goldschmidt at first, Kolten Wong at second base, Paul DeJong at shortstop, and Carpenter at third.

Now is your chance to tell us how you think Carpenter will fare at the plate in 2019. Is another early-season slump on your mind, or are you thinking that the magic tomato condiment will shine through for all six (or seven?) months?
