2019 Community Prospect Projections: Junior Fernandez

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals-Media Day Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

With only days separating us from the first exhibition game of the spring, this will be our final week of Cardinals prospect projections. Junior Fernandez is the player on tap for today. You can catch up on all of the projections here!

The right-handed Fernandez is entering his age-22 season after his 2018 campaign was shortened by a two-month stint on the disabled list to open the year. In 24 relief appearances (eight with Palm Beach and 16 with Springfield) last season, Fernandez had a 3.52 ERA with a 24:18 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

Last year was Fernandez’s first as a reliever; the 2017 season featured him shining across 16 starts for Palm Beach. Prior to 2018, just eight of his 68 appearances dating back to 2014 were out of the bullpen.

How do you see 2019 going for Fernandez? Does he stay in the bullpen? Can he rebound after a down 2018? Let us know!
