Many teams in the Cardinals farm system enjoyed off days yesterday including Springfield, Peoria, and State College. Memphis is enjoying the All Star Break and both DSL games got postponed. For the teams that did play, Palm Beach won after a big ninth inning, the GCL team picked up a victory, and Johnson City lost big.

Palm Beach let a big lead slip away but eventually used a big ninth inning to gain victory.

The Cardinals opened the game with a three spot in the top of the first thanks to a three-run shot by Shane Billings. A Dylan Carlson homer in the second and Billings scoring on a double play in the third made it 5-0 Palm Beach.

Fort Myers cut into the lead with two runs in the bottom of the third before Palm Beach added three more in the top of the fifth. Kramer Robertson drove in a run with a double and Carlson later drove in two with a double.

Fort Myers scored one in the bottom of the fifth, made it interesting with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, and tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Palm Beach wouldn’t let the comeback happen.

After loading the bases to start the ninth, Fort Myers’ manager was ejected and Palm Beach never looked back. Andy Young and J.B. Woodman hit RBI singles, Billings hit a 3-RBI double to bring his RBI total to six for the night, and Danny Hudzina hit an RBI single.

Evan Kruczynski started the game and went five innings allowing three runs, two earned, two hits, and four walks with four strikeouts. John Kilichowski gave up three runs in 1 13 innings out of the pen.

Robbie Gordon (3-1) pitched 1 23 innings and gave up two runs while Eric Carter pitched a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.

Palm Beach has won the first two games of the series against Fort Myers. The series continues tonight at 6.

Michael Perri (SS): 2-3, 3B

Moises Castillo (3B): 2-4

It was an ugly defeat for Johnson City on Tuesday.

It started early with Elizabethton scoring two runs in the top of the first. Johnson City’s lone run came in the bottom of the third due to Elizabethton’s pitcher making a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.

Elizabethton went on to score seven runs in the fifth, three runs in the sixth, and three more in the seventh.

Tommy Parsons started the game and went four innings giving up two runs, four hits, and no walks with three strikeouts. Edwar Ramirez got slaughtered out of the bullpen. He gave up seven runs and eight hits in just 23 of an inning.

Junior Gonzalez wasn’t much better giving up six runs in two innings. Enrique Perez finally settled the bullpen beatdown pitching 2 13 scoreless innings.

Game 2 of this series is tonight at 7.
