Weekend Farm Report: Poncedeleon fans 12, Greene logs 6 scoreless, Palm Beach walks off, and Yepez carries Chiefs

Here are some highlights from the past weekend of farm play:

Memphis Redbirds

  • Jack Flaherty threw six quality innings on Friday with five punchouts. He allowed three runs.
  • In Friday’s game, Patrick Wisdom homered and Randy Arozarena doubled twice.
  • Daniel Poncedeleon started Saturday’s game and pitched very well, logging five innings. He allowed one run - a solo shot - and struck out a dozen Cubs batters.

  • Oscar Mercado and Arozarena each stole two bases on Saturday.
  • John Gant allowed two solo home runs in his six innings of work on Sunday. Wisdom and Mercado each hit a solo home run of their own.

Springfield Cardinals

  • Conner Greene twirled six scoreless innings on Saturday with one hit and eight strikeouts.
  • Tommy Edman hit his first home run of the season.
  • Thomas Spitz and Andrew Knizner batted in six runs apiece in Sunday’s contest.

Palm Beach Cardinals

  • J.B. Woodman scored the game-winning run in the 10th inning on Friday.
  • In his start on Sunday, Ian Oxnevad allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings. He struck out five batters.

Peoria Chiefs

  • Juan Yepez rocked the weekend for Peoria. Yepez smashed a grand slam in Friday’s game and walked off one of the club’s games on Sunday. Oh by the way: Nick Plummer walked off Sunday’s other game.

  • Cory Malcom picked up a save over the weekend, logging 2 1/3 innings in relief to close out the ballgame. Malcom struck out four in the outing.
  • Evan Guillory fanned seven in 4 23 frames.
  • Yariel Gonzalez and Elehuris Montero hit home runs, the first of their 2018 campaigns.
