With the first game of their spring exhibition season less than three weeks away, the Cardinals recently announced who we can expect to see in big-league camp. In addition to the occupants of the 40-man roster, the team has invited 23 players.

The group of non-roster invitees features 10 pitchers, six infielders, five catchers, and two outfielders.

Pitchers Sean Gilmartin, Preston Guilmet, Ryan Helsley, Jordan Hicks, Dakota Hudson, Hector Mendoza, Daniel Poncedeleon, Arturo Reyes, Jordan Schafer, and Jake Woodford are to report to camp by February 13.

Guilmet signed with the Cardinals in early January after last pitching in the Majors in 2015, and Poncedeleon has not pitched in a game since being struck in the head by a line drive in May and requiring brain surgery. He has made a full recovery.

Hicks ranks sixth, Hudson ninth, and Helsley 10 on Baseball America’s list of the club’s top prospects.

Infielders Tommy Edman, Alex Mejia, Rangel Ravelo, Max Schrock, Wilfredo Tovar, and Patrick Wisdom need to be in camp by February 18, a day before full-squad workouts begin. Mejia made his big-league debut in late June of 2017, and Schrock was one of the returns in the trade involving Stephen Piscotty.

Backstops Steven Baron, Andrew Knizner, Jeremy Martinez, Dennis Ortega, and Francisco Pena need to report by February 13 - the same day as the pitchers - to begin their workouts the following day, on Valentine’s day. Knizner finished the 2017 season as the 27-rated Cardinals prospect by MLB Pipeline.

There are only two non-roster outfielders invited to camp this year: Randy Arozarena and Jose Adolis Garcia. Arozarena tore up the Mexican League this winter, batting .292 with 14 homers in 64 games. Garcia posted a 124 wRC+ in 84 games in Springfield and a 110 wRC+ in 40 games with the Redbirds.
