St Louis Cardinals Photo Day
There weren’t many players in action with photos in the SBN photo editor, so Edmundo Sosa will have to do.

In yesterday’s DFR I said that the Palm Beach game was postponed. They will be playing a double-header today due to Hurricane Irma and I mistakenly thought it was yesterday’s game getting lumped into the double-header. It will actually be the game (Game 3) that was originally scheduled for tomorrow. Or Palm Beach could just win the first game today and render the whole thing moot...Anyway, Tommy Spitz was the offensive hero yesterday, he scored the tying run in the third after a one-out triple and then drove in 2 runs in the with a double in the 6 which gave Palm Beach a lead they would not relinquish...Jake Woodford left after 6 innings with a 2 run lead. The bullpen made a bit of a mess of things in the 8th. Ian McKinney came into a 2 on nobody out jam, and allowed a sacrifice fly before walking a man and striking out the third batter he faced. Eric Carter came in and struck out the first batter he faced looking and then stuck around for the 9th to record a 4 out save...As I mentioned above the two teams are scheduled for a double-header this evening at Roger Dean, if Palm Beach wins either game they advance to the next round.

Class A Short-Season: State College 8 - Auburn 6

  • Edwin Figuera (3B): 2-5, K, SB
  • Zach Kirtley (1B): 2-4, R, 2B, RBI, BB, K
  • J.D. Crowe (LF): 1-4, 2 R, BB
  • Bryce Denton (RF): 2-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
  • Ricardo Bautista (CF): 1-5, R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • Caleb Lopes (2B): 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI
  • Johan Oviedo (SP): 5 IP, 9 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 HR

Friend of the comment section, Keith Law, was in town to check out Johan Oviedo. He didn’t get a pitcher’s duel, but the Nats’ Seth Romero was at least flashing some plus stuff...The Spikes are officially eliminated from playoff contention.
