Player of the Week: Memphis Redbirds infielder Breyvic Valera
Valera had a big week for the Redbirds, who picked up their 70th victory of the season on Saturday night. Valera went 7-for-15 at the plate, hitting two doubles, driving in a run, and scoring eight times.
Through 87 with Memphis, Valera is slashing .302/.357/.396 with 12 doubles and 43 runs scored.
Pitcher of the Week: Johnson City Cardinals starting pitcher Alvaro Seijas
Seijas made two starts over the last week for the Johnson City Cardinals. In the starts combined, Seijas lasted 12 2⁄3 innings, allowing six earned runs with a 13:4 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Seijas earned the victory in both starts, improving to 3-1 on the season.
Seijas has an 8.55 K/9 over seven games and starts this year.
Player to Watch: Memphis Redbirds starting pitcher Dakota Hudson
With Luke Weaver in the Majors, Hudson earned a promotion to the Redbirds. Hudson was sparkling at Double-A Springfield, posting a 9-4 record with a 2.53 earned run average in 18 starts. Hudson was drafted by the Cardinals in the opening round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft and is continuing his quick rise through the system.
