Triple A: Memphis 3 – Salt Lake 2

  • Breyvic Valera (LF): 0-4
  • Nick Martini (RF): 2-3, R, PO
  • Aledmys Diaz (DH): 0-0
  • Tyler O’Neill (PH-DH): 1-2, R, HR, 2 RBI, K
  • Jose Adolis Garcia (CF): 1-3, R, 3B
  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 0-2, K
  • Miguel Socolovich (SP): 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K
  • Mark Montgomery (RP): 2 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 2 K
  • Josh Lucas (RP): 2 IP, 1 BB, 1 K

Aledmys Diaz started at DH, but left after being hit in the hand with a pitch in his first at-bat. He was replaced in the lineup by Tyler O’Neill who went on to hit a game tying home run in the 7th His first home run for the Redbirds was his 9th homer in July …Miguel Socolovich was a last-minute fill-in after Luke Weaver was scratched from the lineup so he could join the big club. He did an incredible job given the circumstances, holding the Bees hitless through 4 innings and only walking one…Mark Montgomery has 13 strikeouts this month and has only allowed one run.

Double A: Tulsa 4 - Springfield 3

  • Magneuris Sierra (RF-CF): 0-5, 2 K
  • Oscar Mercado (CF): 0-2, 2 K
  • Darren Seferina (2B): 1-4, R, BB, K
  • Randy Arozarena (LF): 1-3, R, K
  • Andrew Knizner (C): 2-4, RBI
  • Tommy Edman (SS): 1-2, RBI, BB
  • Austin Gomber (SP): 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K

Magneuris Sierra’s 0-5 last night dropped his wRC+ in Springfield below 100 for the year…Andrew Knizner BB and K numbers aren’t nearly as impressive as they were in his pro debut last season, but he has hit 16 home runs in his first 500ish plate appearances with a wooden bat in his hand…Austin Gomber had a nice bounce back start after allowing 5 runs in 3 innings in his last start. He had given up 15 runs in 23 July innings.

Class A Advanced: Tampa 7 - Palm Beach 6

  • Blake Drake (CF): 2-4, 3 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI, BB, SB

  • Jose Martinez (SS): 1-5, R, K
  • Mike O’Reilly (SP): 7 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 3 HR

The impeccably named Blake Drake had himself a game. Unfortunately, his efforts were wasted, neither the rest of the lineup nor the pitching staff could make his 2 homers stand up…Mike O’Reilly had his worst start of the season. He’s been homer prone this year, and he’s surrendered 5 home runs in his two Palm Beach starts. O’Reilly’s BB% has remained in the 3’s across three levels of pro ball, and he’s only walked 12 batters in just over 100 innings this year.
