Triple A: Memphis 6 – Las Vegas 4

  • Breyvic Valera (RF): 2-3, 2 R, BB, SB
  • Tyler O’Neill (LF): 0-3, RBI, K
  • Aledmys Diaz (SS): 2-4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI
  • Patrick Wisdom (3B): 1-3, BB, K
  • Jose Adolis Garcia (CF): 0-4, K
  • Harrison Bader (PH): 0-1
  • John Gant (SP): 7 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR
  • Sam Tuivailala (RP): 1 IP, 2 H, 1 K

Breyvic Valera moved his average up to .300 and now has only 2 fewer walks (23) than strikeouts (25) on the season. That is still only good for a 93 wRC+ thanks to a sub-.100 ISO…On the other end of the spectrum Pat Wisdom has a team leading 22 homers and .254 ISO, but his OBP is weighed down by a .251 BA which limits him to a 106 wRC+…Aledmys Diaz hit his second homer of the season bringing his overall AAA up to .258/.266/.403…John Gant has a career low 5% walk rate in Memphis this year. The next 6 days will tell us an awful lot about his future with the organization; if they sell he’ll likely get a chance to audition for a bigger role with the club next year, and if they end up buying he may find himself in a different organization all together.

Double A: Tulsa 6 - Springfield 4

  • Magneuris Sierra (RF): 2-4, R, RBI, BB, K, SB
  • Oscar Mercado (CF): 0-4, 2 R, BB, K, SB
  • Darren Seferina (SS): 2-4, BB, K, SB
  • Jacob Wilson (3B): 2-3, BB, K
  • Tommy Edman (PH): 0-1
  • Randy Arozarena (PH): 0-0, BB
  • Chris Ellis (SP): 6 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR
  • Andrew Morales (RP): 1 IP, BB, K

Oscar Mercado’s steal last night was his 33rd of the season, which leads the Texas League. Mercado has cooled a bit in the second half, the home run power, which appeared seemingly out of nowhere has completely disappeared. He hasn’t hit a homer since June 29th. The strong seasons by Mercado and Arozarena means the Cardinals should still be well-stocked with CF in the high minors if they can find another team interested in Magneuris Sierra as part of a package either at the deadline or over the winter…Darren Seferina’s line AA line will come way down from where it is now, but after an impressive showing in Palm Beach it won’t be surprising if he has a strong second half in the Texas League. He’s done well to keep his plate discipline numbers steady as he’s moved up the ladder, and he’s added some gap power to game this season as well. A middle infielder who walks, adds value on the bases, and has just enough pop to keep pitchers honest is a pretty interesting prospect. He may start next year in Memphis and on the fringes of the extremely crowded big league infield.

Class A Advanced: Palm Beach 3 – Charlotte 0

  • Shane Billings (CF): 2-4, 2 R, 2B
  • Chris Chinea (1B): 1-4, R, RBI, K
  • Andy Young (2B): 0-3, K
  • Jose Godoy (C): 1-3
  • Jose Martinez (SS): 0-2, BB, K
  • Connor Jones (SP): 4.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K

The cupboard is currently pretty bare in Palm Beach. The first half South Division champs have been fine in the second half, but the lineup that clinched a playoff spot in the first half has been raided…The pitching staff, on the other hand, looks as strong as it has all year, with Jordan Hicks and Mike O’Reilly being added to an already impressive rotation. Speaking of which, last night wasn’t a great outing from Connor Jones, but he kept the Stone Crabs off of the board. He continues to induce grounders at an absurd rate, and if he can get the walks under control he could breakout.

Class A: Peoria 7 – Bowling Green 3

  • Kramer Robertson (SS): 0-5, K
  • Danny Hudzina (3B): 4-5, 2 R, 2B, 2 RBI
  • Ryan McCarvel (C): 2-5, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
  • Juan Yepez (1B): 1-4, RBI, BB
  • Dylan Carlson (RF): 1-4, BB, RBI, K
  • Nick Plummer (CF): 1-4, BB, 2 K, PO
  • Evan Kruczynski (SP): 5.3 IP, 8H, 3 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 2 HR
  • Yeison Medina (RP): 2 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 1 K

Your way too early to be meaningful Kramer Robertson update: .253/.273/.347 This update was way more fun last week (.326/.341/.488)...Ryan McCarvel hit his 13th home run of the season, which is only one shy of his career total heading into the season. It is probably time to lump him in with rest of catchers/sorta catchers who have interesting bats that are starting to accumulate in the system… Yeison Medina has struck out 42 batters in 25.2 innings as a reliever this year.

Class A Short-Season: Mahoning Valley 5 - State College 1

  • Scott Hurst (CF): 1-4, K
  • Evan Mendoza (3B): 3-4, R, 2B, 3B, K
  • Joshua Lopez (C): 1-4, RBI
  • Bryce Denton (LF): 0-3, BB, K
  • Daniel Castano (SP): 4.2 IP, 11 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Colton Thomson (RP): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K

Rookie: Johnson City 4 - Burlington 1

  • Irving Lopez (SS): 1-4, R, HR, RBI
  • Chase Pinder (CF): 2-3, CS
  • Luis Bandes (1B): 1-4, R, 2B
  • Walker Robbins (LF): 1-3, RBI
  • J.D. Murders (2B): 0-3, K
  • Johan Oviedo (SP): 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K

Rookie: GCL Cardinals 2 - GCL Nationals

  • Jonathan Machado (CF): 1-4
  • Eliezer Alvarez (2B): 2-3, 2B, K, SB
  • Delvin Perez (PH-DH): 0-1
  • Walker Robbins (LF): 1-3, RBI
  • J.D. Murders (2B): 0-3, K
  • Johan Oviedo (SP): 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 2 BB, 5 K

Rookie: DSL Cardinals 6- DSL Nationals 5
