Games of July 9th
Triple A: Memphis 2 - Nashville 1 (10 Innings)
- Breyvic Valera (2B): 1-4, R, HR, RBI, BB, CS
- Chad Huffman (DH): 0-5, 2 K
- Harrison Bader (CF): 1-4, R, K
- Jose Adolis Garcia (RF): 2-3, 2B, 2 SB
- Patrick Wisdom (3B): 0-3, BB, 2 K
- Josh Zeid (SP): 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K
- Zach Duke (RP): 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K
- Miguel Socolovich (RP): 1 IP, 1 K
- Josh Lucas (RP): 2 IP, 3 K
Aledmys Diaz still has not drawn a walk in Memphis yet. Which isn't the end of the world, but the difference between Diaz this year and last year is how often he's been chasing and he was presumably sent down to work on his plate discipline, so this is a bit worrisome...Adolis Garcia has yet to walk either, but you know, do your thing, Adolis...Zach Duke has moved quickly up to Memphis during his rehab stint, so maybe that mid-July return that seemed awfully optimistic will be just about right...The ERA isn't great, but Josh Lucas has a 24% K-BB%.
Double A: Springfield 12 - Frisco 8
- Magneuris Sierra (CF): 1-4, R, 2 RBI, BB
- Kolten Wong (2B): 3-5, 2 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI
- Randy Arozarena (LF): 2-5, R, HR, 2 RBI, K
- Andrew Knizner (C): 3-5, 2 R, 2B, K
- John Nogowski (1B): 3-4, 3 R, 2B, RBI
- Tommy Edman (SS): 1-3, R, RBI, BB, K
- Austin Gomber (SP): 7 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 2 HR
- Kevin Siegrist (RP): 1 IP, 3 H, 2 R, BB, K
- Andrew Morales (RP): 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 K
Kolten Wong looks good, they should call him up...Randy Arozarena's homer gives him 33 XBH on the season...Nogs!...Austin Gomber's BB% in two stints in Springfield has been almost double his mark in Palm Beach...Andrew Morales had 2+ seasons of middling results as a starter, but the former 2nd (supplemental) rounder has been converted to relief full time, where his fastball-slider combo may play better.
Class A Advanced: Fort Myers 4 - Palm Beach 2
- Blake Drake (CF): 0-4
- Thomas Spitz (RF): 0-3, BB
- Chris Chinea (C): 1-4, R
- Danny Diekroeger (1B): 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI
- Andy Young (2B): 2-3, K
- Junior Fernandez (SP): 4.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 4 K
There is always a ton of movement between the various farm clubs during the season; guys get hurt, guys get called up, guys get demoted, and then draft picks get added to the mix, and every year one affiliates roster seems to get hit particularly hard. This year it looks like Palm Beach looks to be the loser at the moment, the best position player on the roster is?...
Class A: Cedar Rapids 2 - Peoria 1
- Kramer Robertson (SS): 1-4
- Dylan Carlson (CF): 0-3, BB, K
- Brian O'Keefe (C):1-4, R, K
- Juan Yepez (1B): 0-1, K
- Matt Fiedler (RF): 0-2, BB, K
- Nick Plummer (PR-RF): CS
- Juan Perez (SP): 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 1 HR
- Yeison Medina (RP): 1 IP, 2 K
Dylan Carlson is still treading water as an 18 year old in full season ball. I'll take it for right now...Peoria has run into a bit of the same issue I described above with Palm Beach, but they do have a couple of interesting names like Plummer, Yepez and now now Robertson...Yeison Meidna has 36 strikouts through 20.1 IP.
Rookie: Johnson City 2 - Elizabethton 1
- Wadye Infante (CF): 1-4, RBI, 2 K
- Julio Rodriguez (C): 0-4, 2 K
- Delvin Perez (SS): 0-3
- Brett Seeburger (SP): 6 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K
Rookie: GCL Nationals 4 - GCL Cardinals 3
- Terry Fuller (CF): 1-4, R, HR, RBI, 3 K
Games of July 10th
Double A: Frisco 7 - Springfield 4
- Tommy Edman (SS): 0-5
- Darren Seferina (2B): 2-3, R, K
- Randy Arozarena (CF): 1-4, R, K
- Gabriel Lino (C): 1-4, R, HR, 3 RBI, K
- Matt Pearce (SP): 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 1 HR
Darren Seferina has bounced back from his mini-slump earlier this summer, even though Edman is struggling against Texas League pitching at the moment it's fun watching these two move up the chain together.
Class A Advanced: Fort Myers 2 - Palm Beach 1
- Danny Diekroeger (LF): 0-4
- Blake Drake (CF): 0-4, 2 K
- Chris Chinea (1B): 1-4, K
- Andy Young (DH): 0-3, K
- Jeremy Martinez (C): 1-3
- Ryan Helsley (SP): 6.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 7 K
- Jacob Evans (RP) 1.2, IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K
Another tough night for the Palm Beach offense...The peripherals aren't quite as shiny as last season in Peoria, but Ryan Helsley is holding his own as a 22 year old in Palm Beach...Jacob Evans has been moved to relief full time, and has taken to the role well so far. He has a K-rate north of 30% on the season.
Class A: Peoria 3 - Cedar Rapids 0
- Kramer Robertson (SS): 1-4, K
- Brian O'Keefe (C):1-4, 2B
- Dylan Carlson (CF): 1-4, R, K
- Juan Yepez (1B): 2-4, K
- Nick Plummer (LF): 1-3, BB, K, CS
- Mike O'Reilly (SP): 9 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12 K, 0 HR
Mike O'Reilly just missed his first Maddux. The Peoria starter needed 101 pitches to throw a complete game shutout against Cedar Rapids. His raw strikeout total isn't gaudy, but he's striking out over 27% of the batters he faces and walking only 3%, and his 1.56 ERA is second in the Midwest League.
