125 Years of Cardinals Baseball: Elite Eight Voting

(Note to readers: you can skip straight to the bottom of this article to vote if you don't care about my writeup.)

Wow.

I'll get to the Sweet 16 results in a moment but all I can say is that I have no idea how the rest of this tournament is going to shake out. Here is who's moving on to the Elite Eight in this Greatest Moment In Cardinals History bracket:

  • David Freese's walk-off homer in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series defeated Yadier Molina's go-ahead homer in Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS 94.1% to 5.9%
  • Final out of the 1926 World Series defeated Jim Edmonds' walk-off homer in Game 6 of the 2004 NLCS 52.9% to 47.1%
  • Bob Gibson's shutout in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series defeated Final out of the 2011 World Series 70.6% to 29.4%
  • Bob Gibson's three complete games in the 1967 World Series defeated Jack Clark's go-ahead homer in Game 6 of the 1985 NLCS 88.2% to 11.8%
  • Ozzie Smith's walk-off homer in Game 5 of the 1985 NLCS defeated David Freese's triple in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series 64.7% to 35.3%
  • Albert Pujols' three homers in Game 3 of the 2011 World Series defeated Lance Berkman's single in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series 58.8% to 41.2%
  • Enos Slaughter's "Mad Dash" defeated Final out of the 2006 World Series 52.9% to 47.1%
  • Chris Carpenter's shutout in Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS defeated Final out of the 2006 NLCS 82.4% to 17.6%
This is what the bracket looks like entering the regional finals:125_Years_Bracket.0.jpg

You know the drill. These are the four matchups you will be voting on this time around:

David Freese's walk-off homer in Game 6 of the 2011 World Series vs. Ruth caught stealing to end Game 7 of the 1926 World Series

Freese's attempt at a unanimous run to the Final Four was stopped by Yadier Molina in the previous round, but one of the most dramatic finishes in World Series history looks to be the top seed's first significant hurdle.

Bob Gibson's shutout in Game 1 of the 1968 World Series vs. Bob Gibson's three complete games in the 1967 World Series

Bob Gibson has finally run into the opponent that will knock him out of this tournament: himself.

Go crazy folks! vs. Albert Pujols' three homers in Game 3 of the 2011 World Series

There is only room for one of these Cardinals legends in the Final Four. Will it be The Wizard or The Prince?

Enos Slaughter's "Mad Dash" vs. Chris Carpenter's shutout in Game 5 of the 2011 NLDS

We could have a Final Four with all #1 seeds. Then again, the 2011 Phillies were the #1 seed.

This should be a good one. You can vote by clicking here.
