Player of the Week: Springfield Cardinals outfielder Magneuris Sierra
The speedy Sierra went 10-for-29 over the week in Springfield with two doubles, a triple, and an inside-the-park home run. Sierra has done nothing but produce in Double-A this season, boasting a .324 batting mark and six stolen bases in 24 games with the Cardinals.
Pitcher of the Week: Springfield Cardinals starter Sandy Alcantara
After allowing 23 runs in five May starts, Alcantara has shown much improvement thus far in June, especially in his latest two outings. In a pair of starts over the week (6/10 and 6/15), Alcantara allowed one earned run over eleven combined innings. Alcantara’s strikeout and walk rates still fall on the unfavorable sides, as he whiffed only six and walked five in the two starts.
Player to Watch: Peoria Chiefs infielder Juan Yepez
The team’s return for Matt Adams is making the most of his shot with a new organization. Yepez has cracked five home runs since joining the Chiefs and hit three in the past week alone.
