Cardinals news and notes: Siegrist, Reds, and the farm

Besides “rain a lot”, here’s the stuff that happened over the weekend

MLB: Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals Scott Kane-USA TODAY Sports

The first month of the St. Louis Cardinals season was miserable at times. And yet here we are, in May, with the Cardinals tied for second in the National League Central and within striking distance of first place. Pretty cool, right? Good reason to keep checking in on Viva El Birdos, right? RIGHT? Eh, sure, yeah, let’s go with that. Here’s what got posted up on this here web site over the weekend.

  • Following his struggles on Friday, Ben Markham wrote about Kevin Siegrist and the case for demoting him to the minor leagues. And when I say “his struggles on Friday”, I mean Siegrist’s struggles, not Ben’s. Ben didn’t struggle on Friday. Well, maybe he did, I don’t know. But I didn’t see him struggle. I saw Siegrist struggle. I don’t know where I’m going with this.
  • The red baron wrote about three Cardinals minor leaguers who have produced during the first month of the MiLB season. Speaking of the farm, Josey Curtis looked at some of the other developments in the minors over the previous week.
  • There was no baseball game on Saturday, but on Sunday, there was. Well, technically. VanHicklestein recapped it.

The Cardinals play the Milwaukee Brewers starting tonight, unless the perpetual rain continues.
