Yesterday was a good day for the Cardinals. Aside from sweeping a double-header with the Blue Jays, with the first game being won in pretty spectacular fashion (here are the two recaps) on their first walk-off grand slam in extra innings since the famous Tommy Herr seat cushion game, the Cardinals also won their third straight series and are at the .500 mark for the first time since the second game of the season.
I wrote a post for yesterday morning outlining the first twenty games and you may have noticed that the Cardinals entered the day with a lowly collective slash line of .235/.306/.379, and a wRC+ of 86. A day of smacking-the-ball-all-over-the-park later and those numbers have jumped to .246/.319/.398 and a wRC+ of 93. Dexter Fowler especially had a great day, reaching base seven times in 11 plate appearances, including his third home run of the season. After a very slow start to the season, he is now 12 for his last 32 with six extra-base hits. Let’s hope he keeps it going.
Here’s what else you may have missed yesterday at VEB:
- Joe Schwarz wrote about Adam Wainwright and his improvement on the back of his steady curve ball.
- Lil Scooter notes that an old Cardinals favorite is teaming up with the new Cardinals favorite for some valuable charity work.
- Here’s the farm report from Palm Beach and Peoria.
That should do it. Enjoy your weekend, everyone.
