The Cardinals’ affiliate teams followed suit with their parent club over the weekend, as the four teams combined to go just 1-9 in their ten games from Friday to Sunday. The Peoria Chiefs and Palm Beach Cardinals were not in action yesterday, Easter Sunday.
With that, here are some notes from the weekend of farm action:
-Memphis Redbirds third baseman Patrick Wisdom went 4-for-10 over the weekend with three doubles and scored a pair of runs. Wisdom already has five two-baggers to his name to begin the season.
-Memphis shortstop Paul DeJong went yard on Saturday, his first shot of the year.
-Oscar Mercado, who didn’t homer once in 125 games last year, homered on Sunday for Springfield.
-Dakota Hudson turned in a quality start for Springfield on Saturday, allowing one run over six frames with four punchouts.
-Casey Grayson, Springfield’s designated hitter on Saturday and Sunday, drew four walks over the weekend.
-Springfield third baseman Jacob Wilson jacked two homers on Friday night, accounting for the team’s only runs of the game.
-Austin Gomber struck out six and allowed two runs (one earned) in his 4 1⁄3 innings of work on Friday for Springfield.
-Ryan Helsley started for Palm Beach on Saturday and turned in 6 2⁄3 frames of one-run ball for the Cardinals.
-The Peoria Chiefs struck out 22 times in two games over the weekend.. another similarity to their parent club!!!
MEM: Tyler Lyons - He is making his third rehab start since coming off of offseason knee surgery and has performed impressively so far: 9 1⁄3 innings, no earned runs, one walk, ten strikeouts.
