Here are Brett Cecil’s projections

Thanks to everyone who participated. Here is what we had to say when we requested your predictions for Brett Cecil:

When Zach Duke underwent Tommy John surgery back in October, a durable, left-handed arm that was expected to be a substantial piece of the Cardinals’ bullpen for the 2017 season was lost. Nevertheless, the news could not have come at a more opportune time, with the offseason market still rich in relief pitching.

So, the Cardinals opted to sign former Blue Jays left-hander Brett Cecil to a four-year, $30.5 million deal and give their bullpen a revamped vibe (from the left side, anyway).

The Blue Jays’ first-round pick in the 2007 draft, Cecil debuted back in 2009 and has appeared in 243 games since 2013. Last year, Cecil logged 36 2⁄3 innings and maintained a 3.64 FIP and 11.05 K/9 in 54 games out of the ‘pen for Toronto.

Since 2013, Cecil’s 3.9 WAR ranks him eighth behind current National League relievers, trailing only the likes of Kenley Jansen, Mark Melancon, Wade Davis, Koji Uehara, Trevor Rosenthal, Addison Reed, and Jeurys Familia, putting him in pretty notable company.

Shall the Cardinals opt to carry thirteen position players and twelve pitchers on their 25-man roster (five bench players and seven relievers), Cecil and Kevin Siegrist project to be club’s only left-handed hurlers.

Today, you get to tell us how you think St. Louis’s newest southpaw will fare in his first year in the Gateway City! Feel free to make your projections using the form embedded below and make projections for players you might have missed here.
