Thanks for participating. This is what we said when we asked for submissions on Aledmys Diaz:
Last season, we ran projections for Aledmys Diaz on March 11, after Jhonny Peralta was injured, assuming that he might be in line for some playing time. By the time we rolled around to revealing the projections, the Cardinals had signed Ruben Tejada, Diaz didn’t even make the Opening Day roster, and I didn’t even bother to publish the results.
Here is what everyone thought Diaz would do:
314 PA
10 HR
40 RBI
42 R
6 SB
.268 BA
.321 OBP
.425 SLG
1.7 WAR
Here’s what he did:
460 PA
17 HR
65 RBI
71 R
4 SB
.300 BA
.369 OBP
.510 SLG
2.7 WAR
Pretty disappointing in that stolen base department, huh?
Absent an injury (fingers crossed), Diaz figures to get a full season of playing time at shortstop. If he were to even repeat last year’s numbers that would be a big success. As for other projections, you can find ZiPS here, Steamer here, and Baseball Prospectus ($) on their player pages.
How do you think Diaz will do?
Here’s what you said:
