Cardinals news and notes: Gomber, Garcia, and Oh

It may be February still, but baseball has happened!

MLB: St. Louis Cardinals-Workouts Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

So the St. Louis Cardinals played the Miami Marlins twice over the weekend, and here are a few things we have learned about the 2017 baseball season from these games. One, the Cardinals are going to finish 81-81. This is probably not good enough to make the playoffs. Sorry, guys. Also, all of their games are going to be against the Marlins and none of them are going to be at Busch Stadium. Also, Eric Fryer is going to be an MVP candidate. These are things we know, but many of the details are still yet to be discovered.

As we try to learn them, you can first look at what we had to offer at Viva El Birdos over the weekend.

  • Ben Markham evaluated Cardinals prospect Austin Gomber’s prospective MLB career by comparing him to similarly aged players.
  • Seung-hwan Oh had an excellent rookie season in 2016, but do you believe he could repeat that success in 2017? Weigh in with his entry in the VEB Community Projections.
  • The red baron took a look at the newest Cardinals acquisition, Cuban outfielder Adolis Garcia.
