Arizona Fall League Journal: Week of 10/8-14

A quick recap of the first week of AFL play

The 26th annual Arizona Fall League began on Tuesday, October 10. The Cardinals had eight players representing the organization as members of the Surprise Saguaros, who are 2-3 to begin the season.

Here are some pitching stats and notes from the first week of action:

Sandy Alcantara (RHP): 1 GS — 2 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 0 Ks

Arturo Reyes (RHP): 2 G — 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 Ks

Josh Lucas (RHP): 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 Ks

Jordan Hicks (RHP): 2 G — 4 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 Ks

And now the offensive side:

John Nogowski (UTL): 1-2, 2B, BB, R

Oscar Mercado (CF): 5-16, R, RBI, 3 Ks

Andrew Knizner (C/1B): 3-11, R, 2 RBIs, BB, 4 Ks

Edmundo Sosa (SS): 3-10, R, 2 RBIs, 4 Ks

As always, the entire Arizona Fall League is off on Sunday. The league will resume play on Monday, with the Saguaros hosting the Scorpions at 2:35 PM Central time. Sandy Alcantara is in line to start Monday’s game, although AFL probables are always subject to change.
