Cardinals news and notes: Reyes, Facebook, and the cold

A recap of January 6 on VEB.

MLB: Cincinnati Reds at St. Louis Cardinals Jeff Curry-USA TODAY Sports

It is, to borrow a sentiment from a post which I will link later, cold outside. The major college football season concludes on Monday, the National Football League begins its playoffs today, the NBA and NHL are just entering the meat of their respective seasons, and baseball is...admittedly somewhat lacking in its relevance. But just because baseball is nearly three months away does not mean that absolutely nothing happened. Well, it’s true nothing “happened”, but the posting at Viva El Birdos continued unabated.

Alex Reyes

Joe Schwarz broke down the repertoire of the budding Cardinals superstar pitcher Alex Reyes. It includes a bunch of words, some graphs and tables, and perhaps most importantly, a GIF depicting a pitch so filthy I believe it is illegal in several states.

In further news pertaining to Alex Reyes, and also to Matt Carpenter, it was reported on Thursday that the duo will participate in the 2017 World Baseball Classic for, respectively, the Dominican Republic and the United States, and Josey Curtis wrote about this. The duo will make their WBC debut, while teammate Yadier Molina will represent Puerto Rico in his fourth such tournament.

Facebook Live

Craig Edwards conducted a new Facebook Live event, in which he fielded listener questions about the current state of the Cardinals, ways in which the Cardinals could improve incrementally and in leaps and bounds, and other topics.

Coldness

Lil Scooter wrote a poem about how it is cold and how she would prefer baseball be happening than it be super cold outside. I concur.

It will be another few weekends of coldness before baseball comes, but baseball will eventually come. Stay warm.
