Cardinals news and notes: Reyes, 2016 season, Brewers

I don’t care what anyone says, if the Cardinals make the Wild Card game I want them playing on the road. Plus, news and notes.

After last night’s awful, ugly loss, the Cardinals are 30-38 at home this year and very likely to suffer their first losing record at home since 1999. They slipped out of the last wild card spot, but there’s still a lot of baseball to play and plenty of time to sneak back into that do-or-die game. And in spite of their poor record at home, the conventional wisdom says the Cardinals are still better off playing that game at home. They won’t have to travel, they’ll be in their comfort zone with their home fans behind them, and, even better, it means they’ll have likely gone on a good run to end the season and will enter the postseason playing well.

Still, I don’t care. At this point I’d rather see them play on the road where they’ve been over .150 percentage points better. That’s probably completely illogical, but so is this team so I’m fine with it.

Here’s what you may have missed yesterday at VEB:

Alex Reyes

Joe Schwarz wrote about Alex Reyes’s pitch sequencing as well as the value he brings to the pen. He included some fine and fancy GIFs, too.

Consistently meh

The Cardinals haven’t been able to rip off a big winning (or losing) streak this season. That might need to change for them to make that Wild Card game. Info here.

Farm report

Some good news: Aledmys Diaz is getting close, guys.

Carlos Martinez

Hey look, everyone, Carlos Martinez organized a game of washers, and, huh, wait...oh no, Lil Scooter pronounces it “worshers.”
