On certain dates during this near month-long campaign, the barrage was not only continued but was put into more depth.... In about half of the games of this 25 games. To show this was no fluke and that it could've went longer, I counted 15 games where they hit more than one home run. But here are all the multi dinger games, meaning 3 or more home runs that day.
8/13 This was a highly enjoyable game where 3 home runs were by the Cardinals at Wrigley Field. There was a Moss no-doubter, plus 2 of the usual suspects: Randal Grichuk and Jedd Gyorko, which could have been more "gifts of Wrigley". 3 dingers vs the Cubs! Brandon Moss smash!
8/21 The no doubter award went to Jeremy Hazelbaker on this night vs the Phillies. Stephen Piscotty, Jedd Gyorko, and Brandon Moss joined in on the shock and awe. 4xHR Hazelbaker | Piscotty | Moss | Gyorko
8/24 The Cardinals offered up a round drubbing to Jake DeGrom and hit 3 home runs against the poor guy. Randal Grichuk, Matt Carpenter, and Stephen Piscotty teamed up to add a few home runs to his HR total for 2016.
8/25 And then the very next day the Cardinals decided to up the ante and hit 4 home runs, one more than the day before. Jedd Gyorko and Stephen Piscotty both hit dingers on this date. But Brandon Moss hit TWO dingers. Gyorko had the monster blast of the night though, well, 414 feet anyway. He pulls a lot of home runs on a line drive down the line. The Mets were again the victims of this summer 2016 onslaught. The Cards hit 7 home runs in two games vs the Mets at home.
8/29 Randal Grichuk had the no doubter of this 3 home run night. Kolten Wong and Jedd Gyorko had lesser shots against Zach Davies in Miller Park. Just another 3 home run game.
9/6 The Cardinals historic 2016 home run streak ended in grand fashion with 5 home runs, using up the next night's supply in one game. Matt Adams had the no doubter of the game. A blast that left the park and ended up in the river outside it! The Pirates and old villain Vogelsong were punished this game. And especially Tony Watson, who gave up 3 home runs which could end up being his worst outing. Usual crushers Matt Carpenter and Randal Grichuk hit home runs as well as Yadier Molina and Jhonny Peralta joining in on the festivities.
Read about the Padres streak and compare and contrast, weird that both teams had home run streaks such as this in 2016! (http://www.espn.com/blog/statsinfo/post/_/id/122142/by-the-numbers-padres-home-run-streak-ends)
- The team hit over 50 home runs during the streak, averaging 2 per game!
- Matt Holliday has the longest Cardinal home run this year which was measured at 456 feet
- Brandon Moss hit one 452 feet
- Piscotty, Hazelbaker, and rookie Aledmys Diaz all have a home run over 440 feet!
- The team is lead by Jedd Gyorko and Brandon Moss with 26 and 25 home runs, respectively. Grichuk and Piscotty also have over 20 home runs!
- The 2016 Cardinals will likely have five 20 hr+ hitters, with Matt Carpenter already at 19 home runs despite missing playing time... unless Aledmys Diaz can hit 6 home runs in the next couple weeks! Or hell, Holliday might be more likely to hit just one more this year, another one for the 20 dinger club.
- Piscotty has what the home run tracker site calls the longest average true distance at 406.2 feet. Randal Grichuk is somewhat unsurprsingly 2nd. 405.8. Then Matt Carpenter and Brandon Moss also crush the ball on most dingers around 404 feet. Gyorko fell just shy of 400'.
- That said, Gyorko has 5 no doubters and the only person that has more than that is Brandon Moss with 6 this year. Grichuk, Adams, and Hazelbaker all have 4 no doubters.
Cards have hit home runs in both of the games since the streak ended.....
The Cardinals have hit over 200 dingers as a team this year, so many more than last year! They lead the NL, a roster which includes 9 players with more than 10 home runs. There is still an outside chance that the team has seven 20 home run hitters this year, if everything falls right. It is at the least fun to think about, or what could have been without all the injuries.
In a Cardinals era riddled with Mike Matheny and uncertainty, and after a home run drought last year, it sure is nice to have more than a few no doubters on your side. And with an offense that scores late in the game, a home run threat from top to bottom cannot bode well for the opposition's confidence.
