Triple-A: Cancelled -- Wet Grounds
Double-A: Frisco 8 -- Springfield 1
- Nick Martini, CF, 2-for-4, 2 2Bs
- Paul DeJong, SS, 1-for-2, 2 BBs, K, SB
- Vaughn Bryan, LF, 1-for-4, K, RBI
- Chris Perry, 2 IP, 2 Ks, H, 0 Runs
Paul DeJong played his 9th game at SS, which is neat. I don't know what caused the position switch, but one up the defensive spectrum is always welcome. I do worry that they are down on DeJong's bat and trying find a better place for it though. I couldn't find any other VEB writers addressing this, but this is his first time playing SS as a professional, so it's pretty interesting. Certainly if he can stick there it gives a significant boost to his prospect status.
Vaughn Bryan is in AA now! This is his second game up, and he has three hits in those two games, and the only RBI for the good guys in this one. I'm not sure what earned him the promotion, as he wasn't hitting particularly well for Palm Beach, neither for the season nor in the most recent stretch of games. He's an athletic player, but no longer a prospect really, if he ever was one.
Chris Perry has put together a solid 2.81 ERA in AA this season, backed by a K% approaching 30%, though his walk rate is around 15%. His walk rate has climbed at every level from A-Ball, to High-A, to AA. Eventually he'll have to sort out his command at least a bit before he'll be major league ready.
Class A Advanced: Postponed -- Rain
Class A Short-Season: Suspended -- Rain; West Virginia 1 -- State College 0 heading into the bottom of the first inning.
Rookie DSL: DSL Rockies 4 -- DSL Cardinals 5
- Wadye Ynfante, CF, 1-for-4, BB, K, SB
- Moises Castillo, SS, 2-for-5, 2 2Bs, K, RBI, 2 Runs
- Brian Sanchez, RF, 1-for-4, BB, 2 Ks, CS/PO
- Julio Rodriguez, 3-for-5, K, HR, 3 RBI, R
- Carlos Soto, DH, 1-for-2, 2 BBs, RBI
Rookie: Johnson City 7 -- Greeneville 3
- Matt Fiedler, RF, 1-for-4, BB, 2 Ks, 2 Runs, Error
- Joshua Lopez, C, 3-for-4, K, RBI, R, Error
- Bryce Denton, 3B, 1-for-3, BB, K, 2 Runs, Error
- David Oca, 5 2/3 IP, 7 Ks, 2 Runs, ER, 0 BBs, 7 Hits
That's Denton's 14th error this season in 28 games. His fielding percentage is an abysmal .835. He also just turned 19 on the first day of August.
