With the upcoming return of Jhonny Peralta scheduled for Tuesday against Cincinnati, the question of who would be sent down to clear the roster spot was a hot topic. This question appears to have been answered as the Cardinals elected to demote Kolten Wong to AAA Memphis Monday afternoon.

After a tough April Wong was batting .222/.306/.286 in 144 plate appearances on the season, good for a paltry 66 wRC+ and -0.1 fWAR, but seemed to be turning things around in May before his recent slump. Wong had earned a five-year, $25.5 million extension before the season began.

It appears a combination of Matt Carpenter, Jedd Gyorko, and Greg Garcia will split time at second base.
