Sandy Alcantara's 14 strikeout performance was the big story on the night, but it wasn't enough for Peoria to get past Beloit. Springfield's win over Bo Way and the Arkansas Travelers helped the system avoid a clean sweep.
Triple-A: Salt Lake 14 - Memphis 3
- Charlie Tilson (LF/CF): 1-4, K, CS
- Patrick Wisdom (3B): 0-3, K
- Tommy Pham (CF): 0-4, 2 K
- Jonathan Rodriguez (1B): 2-4, 2 R, 2B, HR, RBI
- Nick Martini (RF): 1-4, R, HR, RBI
- J.C. Sulbaran (SP): 2 IP, 13 H, 11 R, 10 R, 0 BB, 3 K
J.C. Sulbaran's ERA went almost two full runs to 7.52 last night...The Memphis rotation is very bad right now, but this wasn't what it supposed to look like either. Hopefully the return of Reyes from suspension and eventual return of Cooney (who is progressing nicely, per Derrick Goold's chat yesterday) will add some stability.
Double A: Springfield 8 - Arkansas 3
- Breyvic Valera (RF): 1-3, R, 2 RBI, K
- Bruce Caldwell (2B): 3-5, R, 2B, 2 RBI
- Paul Dejong (3B): 0-4, RBI, K
- Carson Kelly (C): 3-4, 2 R, 2B
- Trey Nielsen (SP): 6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 1 R, 2 BB, 2 K
Jarrett Hoffpauir, Daniel Descalso, Jacob Wilson, Bruce Caldwell?...Carson Kelly has gone 11-23 over the last week which as commenter johnmorpheus pointed out has pushed his average for the season up to .300 and his wRC+ now sits at 110...Arkansas has a player named Bo Way.
A Advanced: Clearwater 9 - Palm Beach 3
- Casey Turgeon (LF): 1-3, 2 BB, K
- Darren Seferina (2B): 1-2, R, 2 BB, K, SB
- Casey Grayson (1B): 1-2, 3 RBI, BB
- Oscar Mercado (SS): 0-3, BB, K
- Jacob Evans (SP): 5.2 IP, 13 H, 9 R, 8 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 5 HR
Casey Turgeon is trying to right the ship after a rocky start to the season in Peoria. He's sporting a 170 wRC+ in the Florida State League currently...Darren Seferina's gap power and speed helped him rack up 26 doubles and 12 triples in 107 games last season, the extra base hits haven't been there so far this season, but he did swipe his 11th bag of the season last night...Jacob Evan was the second Cardinals farm hand to give up 13 hits last night to go along with an ugly .8 K/HR ratio.
Class A: Beloit 5 - Peoria 4
- Magneuris Sierra (CF): 2-5, 2B
- Jhonny Peralta (SS): 1-3, R, 2B, K
- Edmundo Sosa (2B/SS): 2-5, R
- Eliezer Alvarez (DH): 1-4, 3B, RBI, BB, K
- Chris Chinea (C): 2-4
- Sandy Alcantara (SP): 6 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 1 BB, 14 K
Sandy Alcantara struck out 14 of the 27 Snappers he faced last night. Only 1 walk was nice to see too, command has been an issue at times this season...The presence of Jhonny Peralta pushed Edmundo Sosa to 2B and Eliezer Alvarez to DH, which moved Chris Chinea behind the plate.
