Yikes.
Triple-A: Fresno 4 - Memphis 2
- Charlie Tilson (LF): 0-4, 2 K
- Greg Garcia (SS): 3-4, R, K
- Tommy Pham (CF): 0-3, K, BB, SB
- David Washington (1B): 1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, 3 K
- Patrick Wisdom (3B): 0-4, 3 K
- Mike Ohlman (C): 0-3, K
- Jeremy Heffner (SP): 5.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 6 K, 1 HR
- Corey Littrell (RP): 1.1 IP, 2 K
- Miguel Socolovich (SP): 2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 2 K, 1 HR
Corey Littrell was called up this week to backfill the bullpen after Dean Kiekhefer was promoted to the big club. The move to the pen has gone well for Littrell, his BB and K rates are the best of his career so far this year and he's an injury or two away from St. Louis. The timing of the his conversion to reliever still seems odd to me given the state of the Memphis rotation...Patrick and Wisdom and Jacob Wilson beware, Bruce Caldwell is lurking in Springfield...Charlie Tilson was shifted to LF to make way for a rehabbing Tom Pham.
Double A: Tulsa 10 - Springfield 2
- Harrison Bader (CF): 0-4, 2 K
- Bruce Caldwell (2B): 0-3, BB, 2 K
- Luke Voit (1B): 2-4, RBI
- Paul Dejong (3B): 0-4, 2 K
- Carson Kelly (C): 1-3, R, BB
- Andrew Morales (SP): 5.2 IP, 11 H, 6 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 2 HR
Andrew Morales was drafted in the second round in 2014, and the thought at the time was the Cardinals picked him because as a college senior he had no leverage and would free up some of the bonus pool money so the organization could afford Jack Flaherty. Morales hasn't done a whole lot to dispel that notion so far in his pro career, the organization is hurting for pitching a bit in the upper minors, but at some point it may be time to see if his plus curve and middling velocity play up as a reliever.
A Advanced: Lakeland @ Palm Beach - Cancelled (Inclement Weather)
Class A: Kane County 10 - Peoria 0
- Magneuris Sierra (CF): 1-5, K, CS
- Edmundo Sosa (SS): 2-3, 1 BB, K
- Eliezer Alvarez (2B): 2-4, K
- Chris Chinea (DH): 1-4
- Junior Fernandez (SP): 4.2 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 2 K
Junior Fernadez has not yet shaken his command issues, his walk rate is approaching 10% for the year...Edmundo Sosa's walk rate is starting to tick back up to where he needs it to be, now he just needs to re-discover the power he showed in short-season ball last year.
