West coast games are the pits and yesterday at VEB

Rick Scuteri-USA TODAY Sports

A St. Louis Cardinals #funfact that has long gotten a lot of play is that until the Dodgers moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles in 1958, the Cardinals were the most southern and western team in baseball. It's one of the contributing factors for their large fan base which goes back generations. Personally, I wish they still held this distinction - not because it would allow the Cardinals to plant their flag in entire territories west of the Mississippi, although that would be nice, but because as a resident in the Eastern Standard Time Zone I had to stay up until 10:40 pm for the game on Friday versus the Padres to even begin which is just insane. I'm old and I need sleep. Had I been alive in the late in 1950s and foresaw the advent of night games I would have fought the Dodgers' move with every ounce of my being.

Anyway, before moving on to the content from yesterday, the Cardinals sent an email yesterday announcing their promotions for the month of May and here they are:

Ranked in order from most to least desirable:

1. Mike Shannon Jersey

2. Yadier Molina Garden Gnome

3. Replica 1946 World Series Ring

4. Adult Cardinals Pullover

5. Performance Adult T-Shirt

6. Performance Kids T-Shirt

You agree?

If you were too anxious about the Blues and Blackhawks game to logon yesterday, here's what you may have missed at VEB:

Aledmys Diaz

I wrote about Aledmys Diaz's hot start and why he should be considered the Cardinals' everyday shortstop.

Carlos Martinez

Joe Schwarz took a look at Carlos Martinez's complex arsenal of pitches. And if you ever wondered who was behind the controls of the VEB Facebook page I offer you this clue:

Shelby Miller in LF

There was some weird baseball on Sunday. So weird that former Cardinals' pitcher Shelby Miller found himself playing a couple of innings in left field.

Cardinals vs. Diamondbacks

The Cardinals started a four-game series last night in Arizona (the game started at 9:40 est) and any reasonable person knows that the Cardinals should destroy the Diamondbacks. Unfortunately, the machines are telling me they lost the game 12-7 and that's all I have to go on because I was asleep by the 4th inning. Here's the game thread as well as the recap.

Enjoy your Tuesday and congrats Blues!
