There weren't many standout offensive performances yesterday, but Eliezer Alvarez was able to fill up the box score for the Chiefs. Memphis got a strong start from Jeremy Heffner and Austin Gomber tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings for Palm Beach.

Triple-A: Memphis 7 - Oklahoma City 2

  • Charlie Tilson (CF): 2-6, R, 2 SB
  • Greg Garcia (SS): 1-3, 2 R, BB
  • Jonathan Rodriguez (1B): 2-4, 3 R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, SB
  • Mike Ohlman (C): 1-4, 2 RBI
  • Jerermy Heffner (SP): 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 1 BB, 6 K
  • Sam Tuivailala (RP): 1 IP, 2 H

The Redbirds used small ball to put up their 7 runs last night. They stole 4 bases and only notched 1 XBH; their 5th inning rally was fueled by a bunt single and 2 stolen bases...Minor League veteran Jeremy Heffner has 16 K and 5 BB in 15.2 IP to start the year...The Redbirds finally got a break in the weather, this was the first 9 inning game they've played since Friday.

A Advanced: Palm Beach 3 - Bradenton 0

  • Darren Seferina (2B): 0-4, K
  • Oscar Mercado (SS): 1-3, BB, 2 K, 2 SB
  • Blake Drake (CF): 1-4, K
  • Nick Thompson (RF): 1-3. 2B, 2 RBI, K
  • Austin Gomber (SP): 6.2 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K
  • Rowan Wick (RP): 1.1 IP, 2 BB, 2 K

Oscar Mercado swiped two bases last night, which tied him for the Florida State League lead with 7. He has struggled with the bat, and been inconsistent in the field, but his speed has played at every level in his pro career. He has stolen 95 bases in 222 minor league games...Palm Beach needed a strong start after Jack Flaherty failed to make it through the first inning last night and Austin Gomber came through tossing 6.2 shutout innings and striking out 6...Rowan Wick has a 36% K% in his brief FSL career which is an impressive rate, but it is still lower than his 38% K% as a batter in the league.

Class A: Clinton 6 - Peoria 4

  • Eliezer Alvarez (2B): 2-3, R, 2 BB, SB
  • Edmundo Sosa (SS): 2-5, RBI, K, SB
  • Magneuris Sierra (CF): 0-4, 2 K
  • Chris Chinea (C): 0-4, K
  • R.J. Dennard (RF): 2-3, R, 2B, BB
  • Jake Woodford (SP): 5 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

Eliezer Alvarez has hit the ground running in full-season ball, he has a .279./360/.442 on the young season to go along with 4 SB and 12% and 14% BB% and K% respectively. He has collected 5 XBH as well.
