The St. Louis Cardinals prospects went 1-3 on Tuesday, Springfield's win in Hammons Field helped avoid a clean sweep.

Triple-A: Memphis 4 - Oklahoma City 3 ( 6 Innings)

  • Charlie Tilson (CF): 0-2, K
  • Greg Garcia (SS): 0-2, K
  • Jonathan Rodriguez (1B): 1-2, 2B, 2 K
  • J.C. Sulbaran (SP): 4.2 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 5 K

The weather has not been kind to the Memphis Redbirds the last few days. This past weekend snow and frigid temperatures wrought havoc on their scheduled 4 game series in Colorado Springs, and last night's game was shortened due to the torrential rain that is soaking Texas and Oklahoma...Memphis only managed two hits last night, one of which was hit by starting pitcher J.C. Sulbaran

Double-A: Springfield 6 - Corpus Christi 3

  • Harrison Bader (CF): 1-4, 3K, CS
  • Breyvic Valera (SS): 1-4, R, 2B, 3 RBI, K
  • Luke Voit (1B):1-4, R, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
  • Paul DeJong (3B): 1-3, R
  • Jesse Jenner (C): 2-3, R
  • Trey Nielsen (SP): 5 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 5 K

Harrison Bader's aggressiveness has been his undoing so far in the Texas League. He has 18 K against 1 BB, and has been caught in 3 of his 4 stolen base attempts...Trey Nielsen needed 86 pitches to record 15 outs, but he was ale to pitch around the 9 base runners he allowed and throw 5 shutout innings.

A Advanced: Bradenton 11 - Palm Beach 5

  • Oscar Mercado (SS): 2-5, R, 2 RBI, K
  • Blake Drake (CF): 1-4, R, HR, RBI, K
  • Jack Flaherty (SP): 0.1 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 1 K
  • Allen Staton (RP): 1 IP, 1 BB, 1 K

Blake Drake's 7th inning homer off of Junior Lopez made him the Palm Beach home run leader on the season with 1...Jack Flaherty's start was a disaster, he threw 35 pitches and faced 8 batters before he was lifted from the game after recording only one out...Yes that was third baseman Allen Staton who came in and tossed a clean 9th inning striking out one.

Class A: Clinton 10 - Peoria 7

  • Magneuris Sierra (CF): 2-4, 2B, RBI
  • Chris Chinea (DH): 1-5, R, 2 K
  • Vaughn Bryan (RF): 1-1, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB
  • Derian Gonzalez (SP): 5 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 4 K

Magneuris Sierra's two hits raised his average to .289, but has still only walked once this season...Chris Chinea was making his full-season debut. He hit well in the Appy League last year, although bat first college hitters should put up good numbers in the Appy League. He was drafted out of LSU last year and has good bat speed, but there are some doubts about his ability to make contact as a pro, which was kinda the Cardinals thing in the draft last year. If he can make enough contact to keep his head above water he has enough pop in his bat to make him very interesting if he can remain behind the plate...Derian Gonzalez signed was signed by the Cardinals as a teenager out of Venezuela and spent 2013 and 14 in the Dominican Summer League and last season in extended spring training and then the Gulf Coast League. This is his first exposure to full-season hitters and it will interesting to watch how he performs and if he has any sort of innings restriction this year. He didn't have a great outing yesterday, but he has 14 K and 4 BB in 10 IP in 2016.
