Here's what you missed yesterday at VEB:
Jhonny Peralta
The big news in Cardinals Land and most of baseball is that Jhonny Peralta is likely out for an extended period of time with a torn ligament in his left thumb. This, of course, is bad news for a team hoping to contend for their fourth straight division title. Craig Edwards took a look at internal options to fill Peralta's void and made a case that it might be time to give Cuban prospect Aledmys Diaz a shot.
Lil Scooter is also firmly against the idea of Peralta being injured and called attention to a quote from John Mozeliak that until we hear otherwise, Peralta's absence means "all hands on deck." This is great news for the underground yet vibrant "Matt Holliday to SS" scene.
Lastly, I whined some more about Peralta's injury and looked for the silver lining (you have to look really hard).
Before moving on let's all take in some Jhonny Peralta content that won't make us sad:
Yadier Molina
Strained thumb ligaments was a theme yesterday as the VEB projections continued with Yadier Molina. Don't forget to vote.
Spring Training
The Cardinals beat the Mets today 9-4. Game notes: Adam Wainwright threw two scoreless innings and Holliday played first base.
