In the first three games of Spring Training against a major league opponent, the Cardinals have started a pitcher who should or could see time in the St. Louis rotation in Tyler Lyons, Jaime Garcia, and Marco Gonzales. The team is switching things up in their game against the National by starting Deck McGuire. The Cardinals invited McGuire to camp as a non-roster invitee after McGuire spent last season in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.
McGuire was a first-round pick of the Toronto Blue Jays back in 2010, but has yet to make it to the majors. He pitched in the Cardinals first spring game against FAU and struck out four batters in two innings, giving up a single hit. For those wanting to watch the game, there should be a wide variety of choices as Fox Sports Midwest and MLB Network are both airing the game. MLB.tv will have a stream as well, and the radio broadcast is on KMOX. For a full broadcast schedule of Spring Training games, click here.
As for the lineup, last year's first round pick, Nick Plummer, gets a start. Plummer is just 19 years old after playing high school ball in Michigan. The rest of the lineup, courtesy of Daniel Doelling:
